No cost, ever. Every SF People Club group is entirely free to join. Your phone number is never sold, the chats stay free of spam, and no ads run inside any group.

Can I join more than one group?

Definitely. A founder who hikes weekends and stresses about the school lottery could easily be in Startups & Tech, Hiking & Outdoors and SF Families at once -- most people here belong to somewhere between 2 and 4 groups.

What's the group size? Won't it be spammy?

We keep each group under 250 people and moderate it actively, so promo posts, crypto pitches, and off-topic links get pulled fast. It's built for the members inside it, full stop.

I just moved to SF and don't know anyone. Worth joining?

That's the entire point of New to SF. Expect a welcome dinner, apartment leads from people who just went through the hunt themselves, and a real read on which neighborhood actually fits you, all within your first week.

I don't have WhatsApp. Another option?

The club runs almost entirely on WhatsApp -- group chats, event planning, day-to-day coordination. Worth the quick install if you're sticking around. Can't make that work? Send us a note through the contact page and we'll find another way to get you in.

Are these groups safe? Vetted?

Before joining, every new member sends one short intro -- a photo, first name, where they're from, and which group they're after. Anyone flagged for harassment or spam is removed immediately. This is neighbors looking out for neighbors, not a directory listing.

A group of long-time San Franciscans built and still runs this, all convinced nobody should feel like an outsider here. One WhatsApp thread back at the start has grown into ten we look after now — a side project driven by care, not a business.
